... Epically.
Today at 9 a.m. I had a rather interesting meeting. I met with my immediate superior, her immediate superior, and am Employee Relations representative, in a grievance hearing that was not a grievance hearing to discuss my concerns and grievance issues and find a resolution. It didn't go far.
At the onset I was told that the Employee Relations Representative did not know which party had called for the meeting. At this time it is important that you understand that Last Thursday I inquired about filing an official employee grievance against my immediate superior. I was then contacted by the Employee Relations office and informed that I would be receiving a date and time to meet, at which time I could present my grievances. That day was today.
After that I was told today that this meeting had been called because I (as a per diem employee) was not represented by a union and was therefor not entitled to file an official employee grievance with my employer. I was told that this meeting was to allow me to bring my concerns and grievances to the table and see if some resolution might be reached. I was then asked to state me case, and I complied.
Many of you may already know of my many grievances and issues with my immediate superior. The most notable of which are as follows:
Hired as an Intern Instead of a Full-time titled employee (RE: Amaris Hernandezs previous position)
At the time of Hire was not supplied a job description, employee handbook, or working hours and wage rate.
Was not provided with the proper materials or time frame to complete the tasks directed at the time of hire. Am required to complete tasks that require
o More time than is given
o Do not have a deadline, which may also conflict with or cancel out tasks already given.
Since the time of hire have continued to receive sub par materials, and continue to be limited to part-time work hours in which to complete the Data Management Positions tasks, and responsibilities.
Discrimination in the form of refusal to give me a full time position including title, due to my lack of college degree. Is currently staffing a similar position with similar job title to a non-college graduate.
Multiple reprimands for less than cordial attitude and for not being a team player, without actual cause and has inferred that I do not do my job.
Lack of written instructions, protocols and monthly, weekly, and daily deadlines.
Required to complete tasks outside my normal duties, responsibilities and education, and am required to do them with no extra allotted time or compensation.
Am required to follow certain social business protocols
o Without being informed of them first (I did not receive at time of hire, nor have I ever received an employee handbook).
o Which do not take into account personal needs and stressors.
Chronically treated in a way that suggests that I have lack of both intelligence and reasoning skills, as well as maturity comparable to my age and experience.
Have been at times left unaware of scheduling changes and postponements that pertain to job.
I brought all of these issues to the attention of my employer and the Employee Relations Representative. After my narrative I was informed that (as a per diem employee) when given a directive by my immediate superior I had two choices available to me. I must either file my resignation, or complete the directive given.
I was further informed that because I am not a union represented employee my immediate superior could require me to work mandatory overtime, and that in addition she could require me to do so without previous notice of any kind.
I was informed that my currently employer (the business, not the superior) was an ever changing institution and that my job as it had been may not be such tomorrow. I was told that my job could change at any time, and that as a per diem employee my job was anything but permanent. I was also told that there may not be time to inform me of such changes ahead of time, and I inferred that my immediate superior was not required by Institution policy and protocol to do so.
I was told that my immediate superior was paid to enact internal protocols as she felt were necessary, and that I must follow them or resign. I was told that my immediate superior did not have to inform me of any changes before they were implemented, and that normal proactive was to double check such instances for myself.
Each and every grievance raised was either glossed over or shot down without actually being addressed. Following that I was told that the Employee Relations Representative would be speaking with my immediate superior to discuss the points raised and try to resolve them and I was dismissed from the meeting.
I get the distinct impression that no changes will be made. The fact that no protocol exists for per diem employees to file official grievances within the organization speaks volumes. I feel that I have no choice but to seek legal council and will now be contacting the Department of Labor to file an official grievance. It should be noted that I have followed the internal protocols for handling such situations (although it was not necessary that I do so), and that has been a fruitless effort.
Congratulations to me, my life sucks.

Edit: 10/7/2009
Today I arrived at work and was given my letter of termination. How badly did I mess up in a past life to deserve that?
Next time gadget!!!
